Head Huggers

Someone asked me to make something for them. For all of us that have a ton of hair to put under a hat... This is what I came up with by looking at a few pictures. They are very easy and quick to make.

I used an H hook. The fall colored one is Red Heart Super Saver, the Earth tones is Lilys Sugar and Cream

Rnd 1) ch 62, sl st to first ch to form ring, being careful not to twist, ch3, (counts as first dc and ch1) * skip next ch, dc in next ch, ch1, repeat from * around. sl st to 2nd ch of ch3
Rnd 2) sl st into ch 1 space, ch3, * skip next dc, dc in next ch1 space, ch1, repeat from * around. sl st to 2nd ch of ch3
Repeat rnd 2 for desired length mine was about 8-9 inches.
Next rnd) ch1, Hdc in same st, hdc in each st around. st st to top of first hdc. Repeat this round for 8 more rnds.
Next Rnd) Reverse single crochet around. Fasten off weave in ends

Tie) Chain 65 add beads to each end, weave in first dc round.

Please feel free to use or sell your own creations, but please give me credit for the pattern.

  7. Great idea. Thanks for sharing it. My son has long hair, usually ties it back out of the way. I was considering making him a rasta type of hat but didn't think he'd wear it. This might do the trick - or could be that his wife will steal it! Maybe I should make 2.

  11. I have tried this twice...but before I get to the rounds with the hdc, my circle has begun to get smaller. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I am new to making hats, but I am in love with this pattern. I want to make them for my granddaughters. Also, how much of the Sugar & Cream yarn do I need?

  15. Thank you for sharing. I have real thin hair because of chemo treatment and this will definitely hide my bald spot! Plus keep me warm and let my longer hair hang out so I don't look bald!

  16. Would this be a good size for an 8 year old girl?

  17. My hair is falling out due to treatment and I need to make one for myself. would you have any idea how big I would make one for an adult or would I just use a larger hook

  18. This is so cute! I live in FL, so I often use Knit Cro Sheen instead of yarn, or peaches and cream, and I have a ton of hair and am letting it grow. I also cook at church in our kitchen, etc, and need something to hold all of this hair back. I am hoping this does the trick. Thank you for such a cute pattern!

  19. I made this hat and it fits an adult head. What number of chain do I need for a child around 8 years old? Also how many rows of each? I am no good at figuring it out my self. I follow exact patterns. Please help!

  20. Love this... but quick question for either Valorie or anyone who's done it successfully... in the 1st round.. does the "skip next chain..." repeat after the dc and chain 1.. all the way around? Thank you for any help!

  24. This is very similar to the mamba socks(Sox?) we snowboarders wore in the early 90's! Those were usually made of flannel though. I'm going to have to try this pattern for my kids.

  25. Has anyone figured out how to make the seam less obvious? In working on my first and my seam is very obvious.

    1. try doing continuous round,no slip stitch at the end of each round. Just use a stitch marker. Just an idea.
