Knock it Out Hat

Knock it Out Hat

I used a size 6 needle and Caron Simply Soft yarn.  This hat has a lot of give to it, I made the same size and it fit my head just nicely and also down to my 10 year olds head.

With size 6 needles:

Cast on 96 stitches placing stitch marker to show beginning of round being careful not to twist.

Knit 1, Purl 2 around.  Repeat this round for a total of 4 inches.

BRIM: Keeping with a knit 1, purl 2 ribbing:  On next round, fold brim under so your cast on edge meets up with your live stitches, pick up a stitch from cast on round and knitting it together with live stitch, making sure to keep a knit stitch lined up with a knit stitch and purl stitches with a purl stitch. You will be picking up 96 stitches and have a total of 96 stitches at the end of this round.

Now working in sections

Section 1
Next 6 rounds: Knit 1, Purl 1 around.

Section 2
Purl every stitch around for 6 more rounds.

Repeat sections 1 and 2 two more times, then work section 1 one more time.

Knit 2 rounds even

Decrease Rounds:  (NOTE:  the last few rounds won't come out evenly, if you have a stitch or two left over, knit them)

Knit 2, Knit 2 together, repeat around.
Knit 2 rounds even
Knit 2, Knit 2 together, repeat around.
Knit 2 rounds even
Knit 2, Knit 2 together, repeat around.
Knit 1, Knit 2 together, repeat around.
Knit 2 together around.
Knit 2 together around.
Fasten off, pull through loops and weave in ends.

X marks Infinity Scarf

It's been a long time since I've had the chance to post a pattern.  This one is something I've tried twice now.  One in bulky yarn and this one in worsted weight. They are basically the same, an even amount of stitches, with the worsted version with about 70 more than the bulky.  My Worsted weight version ended up with an even six inches in width.

You want to have an even amount of chains to start with, so that when you do the cross stitch double crochet it will come out evenly.

Worsted weight yarn and a J hook:

Chain 170 stitches, or however long you want your scarf to be.  I wanted to be able to double this one up.
Making sure chain doesn't twist, slip stitch to close to begin working in rounds.
Round 1:  ch 1, single crochet in same stitch and in each stitch around.

Round 2: ch 3, (counts as first stitch now and throughout) double crochet in next stitch and in each stitch around, slip stitch to top of beginning chain.

Round 3: ch 1, single crochet in same stitch and in each stitch around.  slip stitch to close in top of first single crochet

Round 4: ( this round is the cross stitch round) chain 3, working in last stitch of previous round, double crochet by working across the front of beginning chain, (this makes a X effect)  *skip next double crochet, double crochet in next stitch, double crochet in skipped double crochet* repeat from * to * around, slip stitching in to beginning chain.

Repeat rounds 1-4 for a width of your choice, I worked 3 sets total.

Then work another round of double crochet and then one final round of single crochet to finish off.

Spring is coming 2011

Been taking a break from the designs for a bit. Playing with my camera and enjoying the warm weather. Spring has finally come to Maine...we hope!
