Santa and Santas Elves Hats
I went to the store last weekend to buy some hats for my Christmas cards for the girls to wear. They looked horrible and cost $3 each.. So I bought some yarn and made my own!
I used Red Heart Super Saver for the colors, and Vannas Choice for the white, and a J size hook
Rnd 1)ch 2(does NOT count as first dc now and throughout), 6dc in second ch from hook, sl st to top of first dc, 6dc
Rnd 2, and all even rows)ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st to top of first dc, 6 dc
Rnd 3)ch2, 2dc in same st and in each st around, 12dc
Rnd 5)ch2, 2dc in first st, dc in next st, * 2dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat from * around
Rnd 7)ch2, 2dc in first st, dc in next 2sts, * 2dc in next st, dc in next 2sts, repeat from * around,
Rnd 9)ch2, 2dc in first st, dc in next 3sts, * 2dc in next st, dc in next 3sts, repeat from * around
Rnd 11)ch2, 2dc in first st, dc in next 4sts, * 2dc in next st, dc in next 4sts, repeat from * around
Rnd 13) ch2, 2dc in first st, dc in next 5 sts, * 2dc in next st, dc in next 5sts, repeat from * around
Rnd 15)ch2, 2dc in first st, dc in next 6sts, * 2dc in next st, dc in next 6sts, repeat from * around
Rnd 17)ch2, 2dc in first st, dc in next 7 sts, * 2dc in next st, dc in next 7sts, repeat from * around,
Rnd 18- 22) ch2, dc in first st and in each st around, changing to white on row 20
Rnd 23) Reverse sc around, fasten off weave in ends.
Add pom pom to top of hat.
As always....ADORABLE!

ReplyDeleteI love this! The hats are adorable, as are your girls. Thanks for sharing this cute pattern.
ReplyDeleteBest to you and yours at Christmas and in the new year.

ReplyDeleteThank you soo much for sharing your pattern. This works up super quick. i liked making this one more then the other one i made that was all SC. I am also following you on here and Ravelry.
ReplyDeleteaww, thanks so much everyone!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this pattern. I plan on making two for my daughters to wear to their junior high orchestra concert. Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteI dont know if this is still open for discussion but I have made two now and bothe time the top is never long like the ones shown on here? and suggestions?
ReplyDelete@Crystina, I am getting the same results
ReplyDelete@crystina and betts....for row 2 of the pattern it says to "round 2 and all even rounds" are you doing this round again after every odd/increasing round? this is where the length comes from in the pattern...Hope this helps. I made one this morning and had no trouble.
ReplyDeleteIs this hat big enough to fit an adult?
ReplyDeleteVery Useful information , this is both good reading for, have quite a few good key points, and I learn some new stuff from it too, thanks for sharing your information.Best advertising Agency in the world | top advertising agencies in pakistan | Marketing Agency
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the pattern.
ReplyDeleteVery nice pattern. Can I translate that to Danish and share it with my friends.??
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to use this pattern for my baby on Christmas this year? In size 9-10 months or would I have to shrink the pattern?
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I did wrong but I ended up with a hat that was HUGE! I had to put a ton of decreases in once I started the white part just to try and make it small enough to wear. I used the right hook and thought I followed the instructions correctly so I'm not sure where I went wrong. Mine didn't even fit an adult much less a child.
ReplyDeleteThe hats are so pretty. And I can tell that your kids really love them.
ReplyDeleteDESPERATELY NEED PATTERN FOR 12 MONTH SIZE. HELP PLEASE. THANK YOU SO MUCH
ReplyDeleteI have made these hats in several sizes. One year old I stopped increasing after row 11 then continued to row 17. Row 18 for the backward crochet.
ReplyDeleteI made two so far for two different one year olds by following the above, worked beautifully. They love them.
DeleteI just found your pattern. Thank you for sharing. I am going to adapt the pattern to fit my husband and add it to a ballcap. I bought him a ballcap Santa hat before and he loved it until it was no longer useable.
ReplyDeleteLove all your hat patterns...I have made a bunch for the cancer and for all my kids, grandkids and greats...Keep em coming >>>your girls look great...I just wish we had some weather like you have...but in Texas its a challenge to see what to wear.thanks again...

ReplyDeleteCan this be done on a crochet ring?
ReplyDeleteCan this be done on a crochet ring?
ReplyDeleteRound 4 is missing? Did I missing something??
ReplyDeleteEvery even # row, you do 1 dc in each stitch around. The odd # rows are where you increase.
DeleteCan this pattern be adapted to fit a adult? I love it
ReplyDeleteHow do you size for adults and children?
ReplyDeleteThe instructions look like a one size fits all but I'm sure it isn't.
Has anyone ever gotten responses to their questions on here?
ReplyDeleteI would like for it to be longer to have more of a fold over. Any thoughts on how to do this? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhy not just do each even numbered row twice before going on to the next odd numbered row?
ReplyDeleteHi, thank you for this, however I do so much better following a video than I do with instructions. Do you happen to have a video of this?
ReplyDeleteThank you.
